Me

Listen up, I got a story to tell.
About a boy saved from the pit of Hell.
All he had was a Fender guitar,
He thought he'd like to be a rock and roll star
When I was born back in '54,
Rock and roll was hardly heard of before.
"It's Devil's music" so they tried to imply,
But now it's here to stay and so am I.

When I was young the Beatles made the scene
The nation tuned in on the TV screen
The Beachboys they were having fun, fun, fun
But my trip had just begun

I was raised, on rock and roll
The Lord put it, down in my soul
I just want to be, who He made me to be
I just want to be, me.

Later on I heard of Hendrix and Cream
I thought that kind of music fulfilled my dreams
But later on I felt so empty inside
There was void in me that I couldn't hide

Jesus called me and I opened the door
I saw life as I'd never seen it before
But there's still one thing that has not changed
My heart is different
But the music's still the the same.
